Thank you for joining AISP’s inaugural summit in Philadelphia!
On June 6, AISP and practitioners from across the country gathered for a Data + Equity Summit in Philadelphia, PA to consider key questions about community voice and engagement in data sharing efforts. Actionable Intelligence for Social Policy (AISP) is an initiative at the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Policy and Practice. We work with state and local governments and their partners to collaboratively use data to improve lives. Learn more about our work here.
The event began with a keynote from Tawana Petty. Petty is a mother, social justice organizer, poet, author, and facilitator. Her work focuses on racial justice, equity, privacy, and consent. She is a 2023-2025 Just Tech Fellow with the Social Science Research Council, a 2024 National LIO Yearlong Fellow with the Rockwood Leadership Institute, and she serves on the CSforDetroit Steering Committee. Petty has helped shape AISP’s work on data and equity as an original member of the Toolkit for Centering Racial Equity workgroup and as part of the revision workgroup currently underway.
In the afternoon, we explored approaches to community engagement through panels and workshops led by practitioners from the field. Interactive sessions ranged from qualitative research and participatory activities to process mapping and inclusive data collection. Participants left with new tools, perspectives, and questions. Read a reflection of the day’s event here.
We couldn’t have asked for a more dynamic and thoughtful group of participants, and we can’t wait to see you at the next Summit!
